ASIA is a Progressive Rock Band that had a huge beginning in the early 80’s, very well positioned with the first two albums,  ASIA 1982 and Alpha 1984. The band got put together in 1981 when Guitarist Steve Howe and Keyboardist Geoffrey Downes both from YES, managed to get together with Carl Palmer, among the drummers is credited like the best out of  the 60’s (of course this may be an UK comment,  I will give my impression in other written riff)  generation who played in, Atomic Roster among others and John Wetton Bassist/Vocalist who played at King Crismon and Mogul Thrash among
others.
According to Cral Palmer “The band sort of came together naturally; It wasn’t something which was forced. We all wanted to play together.
We had a great time doing it.” The band was signed in the summer of 1981 by Geffen Records A&R whiz John Kalodner, fresh out of a long affiliation at Atlantic Records.
In an interview made by Rolling Stone Magazine back in June 1982, Steve Howe said they will be around 65 years, so far have been 30 with only two Platinum Albums: ASIA 1982 and Alpha 1984, these two albums sold 7 million copies and 10 singles popped first places on the UK and USA charts. Nevertheless they have remained within the charts in the Netherlands and in Japan. 
After 30 years, the original line-up — Geoff Downes (keyboards), Steve Howe (guitar), Carl Palmer (drums), and John Wetton (bass, lead vocals), released a new studio album called XXX on  July  3, 2012 in the U.S and UK,  (Soon I will add my comments on  the Blog)One good thing ASIA did just like Yes was keep Roger Dean design some of the Album Covers.
The first Asia album went into production in June of 1981 with producer Mike Stone at Marcus Studios and Virgin Townhouse in London. Stone, who had worked on hits for Journey and Queen, also knew the band had an amazing musical ability. The band spent five months writing, arranging, and recording nine songs for its debut that included such classics as ” Heat Of The Moment”, “Only Time Will Tell”, and “Sole Survivor.”
Asia through the years have had many Artist but only Mr.
Geoffery have been with the band since the beginning, with the exception of a very short period of time, check the time

ASIA es un grupo de Rock progresivo que tuvo un muy buen comienzo al inicio de los años 80’s, muy bien posicionado con sus
dos primeros Álbumes: ASIA 1982 and Alpha 1984. 
La banda tuvo sus orígenes en 1981cuando el Guitarrista  Steve Howe y el tecladista Geoffrey Downes ambos del grupo YES,  se las
ingeniaron para juntarse con Carl Palmer, que entre los bateristas se le reconoce como el mejor baterista que salió de la generación del 60’s (claro este es un comentario que sale de gran Bretaña, yo les dare mi impresión en otro Riff escrito)  toco en bandas como, Atomic Rooster entre otras, y el Bajista/Vocalista John Wetton que tocó con
King Crismon y Mogul Thrash entre otras bandas.
De acuerdo con Cral Palmer “La banda se consolido de forma natural y casi espontanea; No fue una acción forzada”.  Todos queríamos tocar juntos, habíamos pasado un buen tiempo ya tocando.” La banda oficialmente se inauguró en el verano de 1981 por la disquera Geffen Records A&R con John Kalodner, justo cuando este terminó una larga relación con Atlantic Records.
En una entrevista hecha por la revista Rollingstone en Junio de 1982, Steve Howe dijo que la banda estría tocando por los próximos 65 años, por los momentos llevan 30 con solo dos Álbumes de Platino: ASIA 1982 y Alpha 1984, entre los dos álbumes se vendieron un poco mas de 7 millones de copias y 10 sencillos llegaron a estar entre los primeros lugares en las carteleras discográficas de USA y UK. Desde entonces se han mantenido con muy buena audiencia en Holanda y Japón. 
Después de 30 años los integrantes originales  Geoff Downes (tecladista), Steve Howe (guitarrista), Carl Palmer (batería), y John Wetton (Bajista/Vocalista), el 3 de Julio de 2012 lanzaron un  Nuevo Álbum grabado en estudio llamado XXX (ya pondré mis comentarios en el Blog) en U.S.A y en  UK,  Una buena estrategia que mantuvo ASIA del grupo YES fue mantener a Roger Dean como diseñador de las carátulas de los álbumes.
El primer álbum de Asia fue a producción en Junio de 1981 con el productor Mike Stone en los studios Marcus  & Virgin Townhouse en Londres. Mike Stone, quien había trabajado en sencillos que  se convirtieron en Hits para Journey y Queen, identificó al instante el
potencial de la banda. La banda paso cinco meses escribiendo, arreglando y  grabando nueve (9) canciones  para su debut entre los cuales se encontraban los clasicos “Heat Of The Moment”,  “Only Time Will Tell”y “Sole Survivor.”
 Asia a traves de los años a tenido varios
artistas, solo el Sr. geoffery ha estado con la banda desde el comienzo, con la
excepción de un período muy corto de tiempo.
