After a long 2 year break, here I am again talking about what for me has been a way of life, more than a passion, Rock N’ Roll Music. Many of my favorite singers, drummers and guitarist died other ones still are alive and kicking stages.
In this opportunity I would like to talk about U2, an Irish Rock band I first heard in 1980, thirty five years later and thirteen records have brought to me nothing less than good memories and great songs. During this written Riff it is not my intention to write about all the discography. In this first part I will go over at least what for me are the best songs this band has on the first three albums. Perhaps these songs are not aligned with what most charts have, but is my opinion. Hope this can promote your thoughts and on another written riff I will be more than glad to include your thoughts or comments.
BOY was the first album U2 brought to life, is an Album that speaks abstractly – but communicates emotionally – about childhood and adolescence, and the concomitant feelings of self-consciousness, doubt, insecurity and fear (David C, 2016) out of the 11 songs this album portraits my favorite songs are: I will follow, A day without me and Story for Boys, this last one because of the drums played by Larry Mullen Jr. in 1981 the Album October came out, despite the astronomic sales volume this record had worldwide, in UK charts stood less time than the Billboard charts here in United States, nevertheless the quality was there and the depth of the lyrics remain as U2 signature. I liked in particular one song out of the 11, With Out a Shout (Jerusalem). A year after October came out, Bono said in an Interview “U2 is not about Fashion, because being in Fashion is going out of fashion, you know?. 1983 was an exceptional year for me, on addition to the good of that year, the Album WAR came along showing a more mature Rock Band. According to many this album introduced some funk, at that time I was not too much into the Funk Genre so I cannot tell. This album came out with a lot of debate among the audience in general, perhaps because of the title. Bono in an interview said regarding WAR, “A lot of the songs on our last albums (Boy and October) were quite abstract, but WAR was intentionally more direct, more specific. But you can still take the title on a lot of different levels. We are not only interested in the physical aspect of war. The emotional effects are just as important”. Out of the songs portrayed in this album I liked Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day and 40, the lyrics of 40 is a proof of what Bono said, “The emotional effect are just as important”, the lyrics are calling for inner peace and redemption, “I waited patiently for the Lord”.

Después de un descanso de dos años, aquí me encuentro de nuevo hablando de lo que para mí ha sido una filosofia de vida más que una pasión, la música Rock N’ Roll. Muchos de mis músicos favoritos, bateristas y guitarristas han muerto, otros siguen vivos y haciendo presentaciones.
En esta oportunidad hablare de U2. Banda Irlandesa que escuche por primera vez en 1980, treinta y cinco años y trece álbumes más tarde, tengo nada menos que buenos recuerdos de buenas canciones. En este riff escrito no es mi intención ahondar ni escribir sobre la discografía completa. En esta primera entrega mencionare por lo menos lo que para mí son las mejores canciones que esta banda tuvo en sus primeros tres álbumes. A lo mejor estas canciones no estarán alineadas con lo que indican algunos chart musicales pero es mi opinión. Espero esto estimule sus pensamientos y en otro riff escrito, con el mayor de los agrados incluiré sus comentarios y pensamientos.
BOY fue el primer álbum que U2 produjo, es un trabajo que habla en forma abstracta - pero comunica emocionalmente – por lo que atraviesa la infancia, la adolescencia y los sentimientos que acompañan la auto conciencia, duda, inseguridad y miedo (David C., 2016), de las 11 canciones que aporto este álbum mis canciones favoritas son; I will Follow, A day without me y Story for Boys , esta última por la impecable ejecución de la batería por parte Larry Mullen Jr. En 1981 el álbum October salió al Mercado, aun cuando las ventas mundiales de este LP fueron astronómicas de acuerdo a los ranking de Inglaterra este estuvo menos tiempo como favorito que el tiempo que estuvieron en las tablas de Billboard en los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo la calidad del grupo estaba presente y la lirica se mantuvo como la firma de U2. Este Lp presento 11 canciones y a mí en lo particular me gusto With Out a Shout (Jerusalem). Al año siguiente Bono dijo en una entrevista “U2 no es moda, porque cuando estas de moda sales de moda, tu entiendes…”. Para mí el año 1983 fue excepcional, además de lo bueno de ese año, U2 publico el álbum WAR mostrando un U2 más maduro o sofisticado. De acuerdo a muchos comentaristas musicales, este álbum U2 introdujo algo del genero Funk, para aquel entonces yo no sabía nada de este ritmo así que no puedo asegurar esto. Para el momento histórico en que es álbum sale al mercado, genera mucho debate entre los fans y el mercado en general, quizá por el título del álbum. Bono en una Entrevista comentó sobre WAR, “Muchas canciones en los LP’s anteriores (Boy y October) eran abstractos en su ejecución, intencionalmente WAR es más directo, más específico y aun así el título puede llevarse a tantos niveles. Nosotros no estamos interesados en la parte física de la guerra, Los efectos emocionales son hasta más importantes”. De las canciones en esta entrega a mí me gustaron; Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day and 40, la lírica de 40 es una prueba de lo que dice bono, ‘Los efectos emocionales son hasta más importantes” la lírica hace un llamado a paz interna y redención, “I waited patiently for the Lord”, ‘ Espere pacientemente por el Señor”
